GIG HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — A 70-year-old Gig Harbor woman must spend six months in prison and pay $2.9 million in restitution for participating in a fraud scheme that bilked millions from would-be investors.

The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1A0NmPL ) that Constance Fenton was sentenced by a Nevada federal judge this week for her part in a Nevada-based fraud scheme.

A Las Vegas family court judge who was involved was sentenced in February to 26 months in prison.

Fenton pleaded guilty in September to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Her lawyer says she was a good person who was in over her head.

Prosecutors say she helped convince dozens of people to invest in "secret government programs" and land deals guaranteed to return high rates of interest. But there were no programs or deals.
