EDEN, Weber County — A man was killed in a head-on crash early Sunday morning.

Leland Joseph Ogg, 35, of South Ogden, was driving his Honda Accord west on 1900 North when he crossed the center line and struck the front of a Ford Ranger traveling eastbound, according to Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Lane Findlay.

Deputies arrived at the scene of the crash near 6900 E. 1900 North at 1:12 a.m. and Ogg was transported to McKay Dee Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Findlay said.

The driver of the Ford, an 18-year-old woman who resides in Huntsville, was pinned inside her vehicle and was extricated by Weber County Fire Department personnel, Findlay said. She suffered a broken leg and other non-life threatening injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to McKay Dee Hospital.

Findlay said the woman was scheduled to undergo surgery but is expected to survive. Officials did not release her name.

Deputies found “possible illegal drugs” in Ogg’s vehicle while investigating the crash, Findlay said. A search warrant was obtained for Ogg’s blood, Findlay said, and a blood sample was also taken from the woman driving the Ford.

Deputies investigated the crash for several hours, Findlay said, but did not yet know why Ogg’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic.
