Hofstra runs past Elon, 80-69

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Dion Nesmith scored 22 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting to help lead Hofstra to an 80-69 win over Elon on Saturday.

Ameen Tanksley scored 18 points, pulled down seven rebounds, and added five steals for the Pride (15-9, 6-5 Colonial Athletic Association), who outrebounded Elon 36-29 and forced 18 Phoenix turnovers. Overall Hofstra is 14-1 this season when holding opponents below 70 points.

Juan'ya Green finished with 15 points and 10 assists for Hofstra, which finished with 19 total assists on 26 field goals.

Trailing 58-57 with 9:21 left, Hofstra went on a 17-5 run over the next 5-plus minutes, capped by five straight points by Nesmith, to take a double-digit lead and put the game away.

Austin Hamilton scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead Elon (11-13, 3-8), which has lost four straight and eight of its last nine.
