MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — DeMarcus Robinson scored 13 points as Alabama State held onto first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 70-55 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday.

Alabama State (13-6, 9-1) maintained at last a one game lead over Texas Southern.

The Hornets struggled from the field, connecting on just 17 of 45 field goal attempts (37.8 percent) — 6 of 17 from distance (35.3 percent) — but converted 30 of 41 from the free throw line.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff was 20 of 41 (48.8 percent) from the field, knocking down 5 of 13 from distance, but was just 10 of 15 from the free throw line.

Jamel Waters added 12 points for Alabama State, and Maurice Strong added another 11.

Tevin Hammond led the Golden Lions (7-17, 4-6) with 15 points, but the Marcel Mosley, the leading scorer in the SWAC averaging 17.2 points per game, was held to just seven points.
