BEIRUT (AP) — The extremist group Islamic State is claiming that an Arizona woman held captive was killed Friday by Jordanian airstrikes in Syria. The group says none of its fighters were killed. Jordan is dismissing the claim as "criminal propaganda." The U.S. says it hasn't seen any evidence to support the claim. The militants released a video this week that purports to show a Jordanian fighter pilot being set ablaze.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A proposed U.N. resolution to crack down on the financing of terrorist groups calls for sanctions on individuals and companies trading oil produced by the Islamic State and other terror groups. That's according to a Russian-sponsored measure obtained by the AP. The resolution would also require all 193 U.N. member states to take "appropriate steps" to prevent the trade in antiquities and other items of historical, scientific, cultural and religious importance.
NIAMEY, Niger (AP) — Nigeria's Islamic extremists have invaded a second country in the region. The expansion comes as neighboring countries are fighting back with ground forces and aircraft.

VALHALLA, N.Y. (AP) — They may not have made a difference, but brighter LED lights were supposed to have been installed at the railroad crossing in suburban New York where a train-SUV collision killed six people. The 2009 plan called for installing a third set of flashing lights 100 to 200 feet up the road to give motorists a warning. The driver of the SUV and five people on the train were killed.
