CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada health officials plan to brief the legislature today on the state's recent measles outbreak. Committee chairman James Oscarson said the meeting will be mostly informational and give legislators a chance to ask questions and gather information about the outbreak. Two confirmed measles cases and two probable cases have been reported.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada state Sen. Debbie Smith is recovering after undergoing surgery in Texas to remove a brain tumor. Smith's doctors say the surgery was successful and that the Sparks Democrat is awake and resting. Smith was scheduled for a 4-5 hour operation at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston this morning.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Sierra storm packing winds gusting in excess of 130 mph over the mountain tops snapped huge trees, closed ski resorts around Lake Tahoe and caused more than 5,000 power outages around Reno and Carson City. NV Energy reported more than 3,000 customers in Carson City and nearly 2,000 in Reno-Sparks were without power at noon.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Professional poker player Dan Bilzerian and a friend are paying restitution to resolve a bomb case in Las Vegas without jail time or a felony conviction. A plea deal announced today avoids trial on felony charges that Bilzerian and Jeremy Guymon illegally blew up a tractor-trailer cab with a homemade explosive in the desert.
