RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada's unseasonably warm weather is expected to give way to high winds and rain as a winter storm makes its way into the Sierra. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory for much of the Sierra where winds could top 100 mph over the mountaintops today.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are moving toward reworking a live entertainment tax that many complain is confusing and filled with too many exemptions. This afternoon in the Senate Revenue Committee plans discussions that are likely to lead to a bill at some point in the session.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — An 80-year-old Reno man is accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14. The Washoe County sheriff's office says Gerhart Maijala is locked up in the Washoe County jail without bail after his arrest on Wednesday. Deputies said the incidents involved a girl who was known to the suspect.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — State officials may spend $10 million more to help protect pedestrians in response to a recent spike in accidents that killed people crossing streets in Reno and Las Vegas. The Nevada Department of Public Safety says pedestrians have accounted for nine of the 26 traffic fatalities reported in the state since Jan. 1. At least two of those killed were in marked crosswalks when they were hit.
