NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says quarterback Luke McCown has agreed to a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints.

The person says the deal will pay the 33-year-old McCown $970,000 in salary, along with a signing bonus of $80,000. The person spoke to The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the contract has not been announced,

McCown has been Drew Brees' backup for the past two seasons. He has been the regular holder on field goals and has attempted one regular-season pass for New Orleans, an incompletion.

McCown, who played for Louisiana Tech, has spent 11 seasons in the NFL, his first nine with Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville and Atlanta.

McCown and Ryan Griffin are expected to compete for New Orleans' backup quarterback job next season.
