FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Mike Caffey scored 25 of his career-high 34 points after halftime as Long Beach State overcame a late 11-point deficit to beat Cal State-Fullerton 91-85 in overtime.
David Samuels added a career-high 22 points and 13 rebounds for Long Beach State (11-11, 5-1 Big West), which closed regulation with a 15-4 run to force overtime. Caffey had three 3-pointers and 11 points during that stretch.
A free throw by Samuels gave Long Beach State an 86-79 lead with 29 seconds left in overtime, but a 3 by Alex Harris pulled Fullerton (8-13, 0-6) within four just nine seconds later.
After two free throws by McKay LaSalle, Lanerryl Johnson hit a 3-pointer to make it 88-85 with 11 seconds to go.
Caffey made 1 of 2 free throws and, after Johnson missed a layup on the other end, Samuels hit a pair to seal it.
Harris led Fullerton, which has lost six in a row, with 28 points.
