BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker has named Victor Woolridge the new chairman of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.
Woolridge will replace current Chairman Henry Thomas, who submitted his resignation as chairman. Thomas will continue to serve on the board.
Woolridge's first job will be to form a search committee to begin looking for a new University of Massachusetts President.
UMass President Robert Caret announced in December that he will resign in June to become the next chancellor of the University of Maryland system.
Woolridge has chaired the UMass Board's Committee on Administration and Finance since 2011. He works as vice president of Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers and is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Appointments to the UMass board are for a five-year term. Woolridge's current term expires in 2019.
