COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Two top South Carolina Republicans are getting together to talk about education.

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson and State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman are holding a news conference Monday on the north steps of the Statehouse in Columbia.

Organizers say Wilson is preparing to introduce a bill in Washington this week called the Local Control of Education Act. His office says the bill will keep the federal government from using grants or waivers to make states adopt a specific set of academic standards, such as the Common Core.
