UC Irvine beats Hawaii 78-72 for fourth straight win

HAWAII (AP) — Will Davis II had 17 points, Alex Young scored 15 and UC Irvine held off Hawaii 78-72 on Saturday night.

Young had a 3-pointer with 1:22 left for a 74-70 lead and two free throws with 25 seconds left to cap the scoring for UC Irvine (11-8, 4-1 Big West).

Hawaii (14-7, 2-3) scored 11 straight to close within 63-61 with 6:33 left. UCI's Dominique Dunning stopped the run with a 3-pointer, but the Rainbow Warriors continued to threaten until Stefan Jankovic's missed 3-point attempt with 33 seconds left.

Jaron Martin added 13 points and John Ryan 10 rebounds for the Anteaters, who won their fourth straight.

Isaac Fleming scored 14 and Garrett Nevels 13. Hawaii's leading scorer, Aaron Valdes (15.8 points per game), struggled with only six points, but his first field goal was a 3-pointer with 1:40 left to get Hawaii within 71-70.
