This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Adam Trupp may be the new chief executive officer for the Utah Association of Counties, but he's no stranger to navigating sensitive issues from a legal standpoint after many years as an attorney and most recently working as a family courtroom attorney for three years. And he's now ready to use his experience to lead the association into 2015.
The Utah Association of Counties is focused on protecting and developing the interests of Utah's 29 counties. They advocate good public policy and assist Utah county officials in the performance of public service.
The Utah Association of Counties has a wide range of responsibilities, all dedicated to ensuring county operations continue running smoothly. Not to mention because counties are political subdivisions of the state, they're responsible for carrying out many state tasks, everything from road maintenance and human services to public health and air quality.
It's no secret substantial growth is expected, with the population of the Wasatch Front expected to double by 2050. Adam was also excited to discuss the development in Box Elder and Cache counties. This will affect existing infrastructure, especially county roads. That's one reason the Utah Association of Counties has their eye on transportation to make sure everything is in place to handle the increase.
Another important focus is working with the state to find work to spread Utah's population out more. The economy can vary so much from one county to another, which is one reason the Utah Association of Counties is working to revitalize job options statewide. Of course the oil and gas industry remains an important economic driver, but they're looking at multiple, a great example of why Utah has been named as one of the most industry diverse states in the nation.
The Utah Association of Counties also helps counties create strategic plans so they can successfully navigate the next decade and beyond. Even though problems vary for each county, many have the same fundamental challenges and goals they're working to reach. Adam and his team can bring information together and find ways to unify county interests.
For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
