Norway's Fanny Welle-Strand Horn wins maiden World Cup race

RUHPOLDIONG, Germany (AP) — Fanny Welle-Strand Horn of Norway won her maiden biathlon World Cup race on Friday by edging three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva of Belarus over the 7.5-kilometer course.

Horn covered the distance in 21 minutes, 7.4 seconds while staying perfect on both shooting ranges and beat Domracheva by 3.4 seconds. Domracheva also shot cleanly.

Tiril Eckhoff of Norway overcame one penalty lap to finish third, 9.3 seconds behind the winner.

Overall World Cup leader Kaisa Makarainen of Finland missed two targets to place seventh, 32 seconds behind. She is 82 points ahead of Domracheva in the overall standings.
