TAYLORSVILLE — Police are looking for the man who robbed a market while brandishing a knife Monday evening.
A man walked into India Foods, at 4159 S. Redwood Road in Taylorsville, at about 6:30 p.m. and demanded money from a cashier, according to Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal. Witnesses told investigators that the man brandished a long knife at the cashier.
He fled India Foods on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
“We had a number of officers, including K-9 units, that responded and searched the area but were unable to locate him, so we’re asking for the public’s help,” Hoyal said.
Investigators described the robber as a Caucasian man who is about 6 feet tall and weighs around 165 pounds. They said he was dressed all in black, including a black hooded sweatshirt.

Hoyal said police are investigating the possibility that Monday’s robbery could be related to one that occurred nearby on Saturday, although the suspect description doesn’t entirely match. The Arctic Circle at 4791 S. Redwood Road was robbed Saturday evening.
The suspect for the Arctic Circle robbery was described as being a little shorter than the man at India Foods. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with jewels around the hood, plus jeans. All of the restaurant’s employees were in the back of the store for a meeting, with no customers present, when the man arrived, according to Hoyal.
“The suspect went around the counter (to the back), walked up behind one of the employees and put the knife to the back of her neck and ordered her to get the cash out of the drawer,” he said. “Some of the other employees came up with her and basically helped get the money.”
The man involved with the Arctic Circle robbery also fled on foot, police said.
Anyone with information about either of the robberies can call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
