SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a 63-year-old man lost control while skiing at the Snowbird Ski Resort, hit a tree and died. Friends of Charles Johanson and the ski patrol began looking for him after he and a friend were separated yesterday morning.The Salt Lake Tribune reports that his body was found in a wooded area near the base of a chairlift.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Mendon officials have been given the green light to consider buying water from nearby Wellsville. Representatives from Mendon attended a meeting of the Wellsville City Council this week to make a formal request. The Herald Journal Mendon Mayor Ed Buist says his community has struggled to find new sources of water after one well was closed in 2009 due to high levels of nitrates.

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) — A viewing will be held today for Box Elder County Sheriff J. Lynn Yeates, who died earlier this week. A funeral service will be held tomorrow at the Box Elder LDS Stake Center. Yeates was 68. He died of natural causes just a day after being sworn in for a third term. The vacancy left by his death will be filled through a special election.

THE VILLAGE, Okla. (AP) — Former Weber State linebacker Anthony Morales has been charged with aggravated assault and battery for allegedly breaking the jaw of New York Yankees pitching prospect Ty Hensley. The attack last month in Oklahoma was described by police as an argument about signing bonuses. Morales and Hensley are both from Edmond, Oklahoma.
