RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials say one of two boys who fell through the ice on a frozen lake in south Reno yesterday has died. The 13-year-old boy was submerged for more than a half-hour before he was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in critical condition. His 12-year-old companion was able to pull himself from the water and call 911.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge says a Malaysian businessman and his son can't play poker at Las Vegas casinos while they await a ruling in their trial on illegal gambling charges. The men are awaiting a ruling on whether the FBI illegally entered their hotel suites to investigate what prosecutors say was a $13 million illegal Internet gambling ring.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Two lucky families will win a free year of college tuition if they sign up for Nevada's prepaid tuition program. Treasurer Dan Schwartz says families in the state's prepaid tuition program will be automatically entered into a drawing and could win free college for their beneficiary. The program is in its 17th year of operation.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 25-year-old Las Vegas man is due in court today in a Christmas Eve crash that killed two women. Police say Ray Diokno was speeding when his car slammed broadside into an SUV, killing an 81-year-old woman and a 63-year-old woman. Diokno and four other people were injured.
