PARIS (AP) — There's a national day of mourning, and a minute of silence is planned for noon in France Thursday after Wednesday's deadly attack on a satirical newspaper by armed men with possible links to al-Qaida. Authorities are looking for two brothers they believe burst into the offices of Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people and wounding 11. Among the dead are eight journalists, two police officers, a maintenance worker and a visitor. A third suspect has surrendered to police.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Four months after security was revamped at Fort Bliss, the Texas Army post is again ramping up efforts after this week's shooting at a veterans clinic. On Tuesday, a former clerk killed a psychologist at the clinic in El Paso before committing suicide. A Fort Bliss spokesman says the post has increased random vehicle searches and checks of proper registration. Officials haven't said how the gunman got a .380-caliber handgun past security checkpoints at the VA clinic.

PANGKALAN BUN, Indonesia (AP) — Divers are hoping to zero in on AirAsia Flight 8501's black boxes now that search and recovery operations have discovered a chunk of the plane's tail. The flight and cockpit voice recorders are located in the rear section of the aircraft. The search and rescue operation coordinator says an unmanned underwater vehicle spotted the tail Wednesday, upside down and partially buried in the sea floor. The plane, with 162 people aboard, crashed into the Java Sea Dec. 28, while flying from Indonesia to Singapore.

CLARION, Pa. (AP) — The coroner in Clarion County, Pennsylvania says, "It was carnage." Two people were killed and dozens were injured in an 18-vehicle pileup in whiteout conditions Wednesday afternoon in the western part of the state. Both victims died after leaving their vehicles. One person was struck and the other collapsed and died of internal injuries while looking for his children who had been thrown from his vehicle. They were OK. County Coroner Terry Shaffer says there was metal everywhere.

LAKE BERRYESSA, Calif. (AP) — Officials in California say a 911 dispatcher in training used Facebook to locate a Northern California hiker critically injured after falling 150 feet down a cliff. Ryan Pritchard was hiking with his son on a remote trail near Lake Berryessa when he slipped and fell. His 11-year-old called 911 but the call got cut off before he could tell dispatchers where his father was. Dispatcher trainee Breanna Martinez tells CBS13 in Sacramento that she went to Pritchard's Facebook page and saw the very first post that said, "Hiking the Blue Ridge Trail today."
