(KSL News) Fire on a mountainside in Ogden came dangerously close to several homes overnight. As a precaution, four homes were evacuated.

Dave Errigo, Evacuated Resident: "We watched it over in that direction, watched it glow. When it came over the top, we started loading everything up, getting ready to get out of here."

The residents of those houses have since been allowed to return home.

It happened near Rancho Vista Drive and Mountain Road.

It was an exhausting night for crews, as strong winds blew the fire in a southwest direction, toward the homes.

The fire came within 15 to 20 yards of some homes, but none of them burned.

Tracy Sandberg, Resident: "We have had wind like this every night for the last couple of nights. When it started kicking up, that is when I started to get worried. We actually have stuff packed if we have to leave.

Javier Chavez, Evacuated Resident: "In the beginning, I said no. But after two hours, it kept coming closer and closer, so it's scary. I don't know what is going to happen."

Last night Dave Errigo was worried that the fire would take out his motor home and a neighbor's house.

Dave Errigo, Evacuated Resident: "I was worried it was going to take all of these homes out. I mean, it was that close. The smoke was terrible. You choked on it."

Smoke still fills the air, but from far up the mountainside, away from the homes. Firefighters are still looking for and dousing hot spots this afternoon.

Investigators are not sure how the fire started, but they do believe it was probably man-caused. Some neighbors think teenagers camping in the area may have started it.
