LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's private sector was shrinking faster than anywhere else during the recession, but it's now rebounding at one of the quickest paces in the country. The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reports that Nevada's private sector grew 3.7 percent in the first six months of 2014 compared to 2013. That rate is only behind North Dakota and Colorado.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — State officials say Nevada gambling revenue was virtually flat in November compared with the same month a year ago. Revenue was up less than one-tenth of one percent for $876 million, compared with November 2013, according to the latest figures from the Gaming Control Board.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County commission has chosen a former deputy director of the state health and human services department to fill a vacancy in the Nevada Assembly. Commissioners voted today to appoint Democrat Amber Joiner to the Assembly District 24 seat. She replaces Democrat David Bobzien, who was appointed to the Reno City Council earlier this month.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada National Guard says soldiers will be posted during the next two days at McCarran International Airport and other Las Vegas-area facilities as part of a New Year's Eve holiday contingency plan. A guard spokesman says at least 65 guard members will take part through Thursday in what authorities are calling an annual exercise. They say the soldiers aren't out because of any specific threat.
