Las Vegas pharmacy slaying suspect was employee

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man awaiting a court appearance on murder and other charges in the shooting death of a pharmacy clerk at a Walgreens in Las Vegas last week used to work at the same store and was a suspect in a heist at another Walgreens two days earlier, police said Monday.

Investigators believe Jin Ackerman knew Antonino Isnit, the man he is accused of killing in the predawn heist on Friday at a 24-hour Walgreens in northwest Las Vegas, police Lt. Ray Steiber said.

But robbery, and not revenge, was the apparent motive for the slaying, Steiber said.

Ackerman, 25, ushered Isnit and a female clerk into a back room at gunpoint, removed cash from a safe, and remained in the store for about an hour, police said in a statement.

The Clark County coroner reported that Isnit, 58, died of multiple gunshots.

Ackerman was arrested Friday afternoon at a home a few miles away from the slaying scene, and police reported finding a gun they believe was used in the shooting.

The home is also near another Walgreens that police said they think Ackerman robbed on Dec. 24.

Ackerman remained jailed Monday, awaiting an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and burglary charges that could get him life in prison without parole.

It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Brian Barnard, manager of the Walgreens where Isnit was killed, declined Monday to comment.

Walgreen Co. spokeswoman Emily Hartwig said the Deerfield, Illinois-based company extended condolences and funeral expense assistance to Isnit's family and loved ones, and made counseling services available to store staff members.
