NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter's former No. 2 locker was the place holder for Penn State kicker Sam Ficken.
Captain to captain, Ficken had the honor of using the retired Jeter's locker Saturday for the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium against Boston College.
Ficken had the best season of his four-year career, making 23 of 28 field goals and connected on a 36-yarder as time expired for a 26-24 win the season opener against Central Florida. He is Penn State's special teams' captain.
Unlike Jeter's range at shortstop, Penn State was counting on Ficken not to go wide left or wide right.
