CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Canyon County has created an alternative sentencing program that's intended to reduce the number of inmates at the county jail. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports local judges will have the option of assigning community service rather than jail time to some misdemeanor offenders. A lawsuit limits the number of inmates, but voters have rejected jail bond proposals.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho State Police say they have arrested a man in connection with four recent armed bank robberies in the Chicago area. A trooper arrested 20-year-old Kenneth Hunter of Olympia Fields, Illinois, after pulling over a speeding car on Interstate 84 near Nampa. The robberies took place between Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man who threatened to kill his ex-wife if she didn't give him $25,000 for back surgery has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that 62-year-old Larry Alan Taylor of Post Falls received the sentence last week in 1st District Court. Taylor must serve four years before becoming eligible for parole.

SNOHOMISH, Wash. (AP) — An ice cream manufacturer is recalling products sold in Idaho and several other western states due to possible listeria contamination. Snoqualmie (snoh-KWALM'-ee) Gourmet Ice Cream says the recall includes all flavors and sizes of ice cream, gelato, custard and sorbet, as well as Emerald & Spruce Ice Cream and Top Pot Hand Forged Ice Cream.
