JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Flipped cars, knocked out power and at least four deaths. Severe weather is slamming the southern U.S. two days before Christmas. Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has declared an emergency for two southeastern counties where officials say the four people died and several more were injured. The governor's office also says thousands of homes and businesses are without power in the Columbia area, about 80 miles southeast of Jackson.

CHICAGO (AP) — Officials at Chicago's two airports are getting ready for the possibility of holiday delays and cancellations, as forecasters predict rain and snow for parts of the Great Lakes region. Several inches of snow could fall Christmas Eve in parts of Illinois. Today nearly 2 feet of snow fell in South Dakota's Black Hills. And a blast of cold and snowy conditions resulted in dozens of flights in and out of Philadelphia International Airport being canceled.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The FBI says a threat that a Mississippi River bridge near Memphis, Tennessee, would be blown up is "unsubstantiated." But federal officials are still asking local law enforcement to keep an eye on bridges in the area. An FBI spokesman says a vague threat came in and local police were alerted as a matter of routine. Interstates 40 and 55 — which traverse the Mississippi River at Memphis, remain open.

NEW YORK (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden plans to attend the funeral for one of the two New York City police officers killed in an ambush on Saturday. Services for Officer Rafael Ramos will be held in Glendale, New York. Funeral arrangements for Ramos' partner, Officer Wenjian Liu, will be made once his family arrives from China.

BOSTON (AP) — A judge in Boston has denied travel to a man who police say fell naked through the ceiling of a women's bathroom at Logan International Airport last month and then assaulted an 84-year-old man. Twenty-six-year-old Cameron Shenk had asked that his home confinement be lifted so he could spend Christmas with his family in Utah.
