NEW YORK (AP) — New York City's police commissioner says the two officers who were ambushed and killed in their cruiser today "were, quite simply, assassinated." Commissioner William Bratton says the suspect had shot his ex-girlfriend earlier in Baltimore. The officers were killed in Brooklyn. Police say the gunman ran inside a subway station and fatally shot himself in the head.
WILLOW CREEK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a 17-year-old who attacked him with a machete. A CHP spokesman says the officer stopped to help the boy, who had hit a telephone pole in Humboldt County, when the teen attacked him. The officer sustained major injuries in yesterday's incident.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is standing by the FBI's conclusion that the North Korean government is responsible for the cyberattack on Sony Pictures Entertainment. But Pyongyang is denying it. The North Korean Foreign Ministry says it knows how to prove it's not responsible for the hacking and is proposing conducting a joint investigation with the U.S.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) is asking supporters to buy a ticket to the movie "The Interview" if theater owners reverse their decision not to show the film amid threats of retaliation from North Korea. Priebus says he'll ask Republicans to buy tickets "to show North Korea we cannot be bullied into giving up our freedom."
PALMERTON, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say speed was a factor in a fiery head-on crash in eastern Pennsylvania that claimed the lives of four teenagers. State troopers in Carbon County say the four were in a sedan heading west on Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township on Friday evening. It collided with an eastbound car. Two other people were injured in the wreck.
