HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — John Brown scored 17 of his 24 in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds, and Jake Weary added 16 points, leading High Point to an 80-71 win over James Madison on Saturday night.
Andre Nation's dunk with 9:12 left gave James Madison (7-4) a 59-56 lead, but the Dukes wouldn't make another field goal until High Point was called for goaltending on a Winston Grays layup nearly seven minutes later.
A three-point play by Weary with 6:05 remaining tied the game at 61 and started a 10-0 run by High Point (8-3), which was capped by a 3-pointer from Devante Wallace and ended with the Panthers leading 68-61 with 3 minutes to go.
Brown scored seven points, and High Point went 8 of 10 from the free-throw line from there to seal it.
James Madison led 37-36 at the half, but went 4 of 15 from 3-point range in the second half.
