IUPUI holds on to beat South Alabama 71-65 in OT

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Mason Archie II scored five of his 12 points in overtime to secure IUPUI's 71-65 victory over South Alabama in the Gotham Classic on Saturday to snap a six-game losing skid.

IUPUI never trailed and held a 52-40 advantage with 8:02 left in regulation. Taishaun Johnson drove for a layup and Ken Williams followed with a three-point play to start a 19-5 run and South Alabama took its first lead 59-57 with 2:49 remaining. IUPUI's DavRon Williams, who finished with 13 points, hit a jumper with 2:29 left to tie the score at 59. Neither team could get another bucket in regulation.

IUPUI jumped out to a 65-59 lead in overtime and held on for the win.

IUPUI (3-8) made 22 of 32 free throw attempts to 9 of 12 for South Alabama.

Williams had 23 points and Johnson added 18 for South Alabama (2-7).
