NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The college football bowl season is underway with Nevada taking on Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl. Nevada is seeking its first bowl victory since the 2010 season, the Ragin' Cajuns are trying for their fourth straight New Orleans Bowl victory.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — No. 4 Louisville is visiting 5-4 Western Kentucky to tip off a busy top-25 college basketball schedule today. The 9-0 Cardinals are facing the Hilltoppers for the seventh straight season and have won the last five meetings between the teams.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Knicks are hosting Phoenix in the opener of the NBA schedule this afternoon in a meeting of teams that are having trouble earning wins. Phoenix is coming off a victory over Charlotte earlier this week that snapped a six-game losing streak. New York heads into the game having lost three in a row and 13 of 14.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets will try to extend their consecutive-game points streak to nine games tonight when they face the Chicago Blackhawks. Columbus will be playing without forward Boone Jenner, who has been placed on injured reserve with a stress fracture in his back. He's expected to be out one to two months.

VAL D'ISERE, France (AP) — Lindsay Vonn has captured a second World Cup downhill win as she continues her comeback from a career-threatening knee injury. The four-time World Cup champ made it three straight podium finishes with the win in France and is now just one victory away from tying Annemarie Moser-Proll for the most in World Cup history.
