BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins was not on the practice field during the portion of the workout open to the media.

Hawkins leads Cleveland with 58 receptions for 763 yards and two touchdowns. The team did not have an immediate reason for Hawkins' absence.

Earlier this week, Hawkins, who is in his first season with the Browns, poignantly spoke about his reasons for wearing a T-shirt before Sunday's game protesting two police shootings in Ohio.

Browns cornerback Joe Haden (shoulder), safety Tashaun Gipson (knee) and cornerback K'Waun Williams (hamstring) are also sidelined. Haden and Williams rode stationary bikes during the early stages of practice.

Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas returned after his normal rest day. Thomas was voted the team's player of the year by the local chapter of the Football Writers of America.
