THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Amin Torres scored a career-high 26 points to lead Nicholls State past Division II Arkansas-Monticello 81-75 on Tuesday.

Ja'Dante' Frye had 19 points, 15 in the second half, for Nicholls State (2-5). Sam McBeath added 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Colonels outrebound Arkansas-Monticello 44-27.

Richard Benedyth had 18 points, Cameron Blue 16 and Sharif Hudson added 15 for Arkansas-Monticello. The Weevils made 5 of 10 3-pointers in the first half, but went 3 of 9 the rest of the way.

Arkansas-Monticello led 40-39 at the break. Benedyth had 14 points on 3 of 4 shooting from distance in the opening frame and Hudson added 12.

Frye scored the first nine points of the second half to put Nicholls State in front 48-40. Arkansas-Monticello tied the game at 49, 52 and 61, but Nicholls State had an answer every time.

Nicholls State was coming off an 86-43 loss at No. 5 Wisconsin.
