(KSL News) If it wasn't homemade, it had to be a Hostess. But not anymore. Cupcakes are making a crazy comeback.

From coast to coast, cupcakes have become the hottest thing since sliced cake.

At New York's Buttercup Bakery they're flying off the shelves at a rate of two to three thousand a day. In Beverly Hills, Sprinkles Cupcakes is selling about 15-hundred a day.

Jennifer Appel/ Buttercup Bakeshop Owner: "It was something that reminds them of childhood. It was something that mom and grandma used to bake for them."

Nichelle Stephens/ Cupcake Enthusiast: "It's about our passion, and we found that that passion is connecting all over the country."

Candace Nelson/ Sprinkles Cupcakes Owner: "With the new emphasis on great flavors and great products, they really are becoming a staple of our American life."

And, they're not just talking about chocolate or vanilla. How about chai latte, ginger lemon and red velvet. And get this-- they are such the hot topic right now there's a website dedicated to them.
