HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — The New York Red Bulls have loaned goalkeeper Ryan Meara to New York City FC for the 2015 season for midfielder Sal Zizzo.

The Red Bulls announced the deal Thursday.

Meara spent the last three seasons with the Red Bulls. The Fordham product made 18 appearances in his first season in 2012. He did not make a regular-season appearance the past two seasons playing behind Luis Robles.

Zizzo was chosen by New York City FC in Wednesday's expansion draft from Sporting Kansas City. The midfielder has spent five seasons in MLS with Chivas USA, Portland and Sporting Kansas City.

A player on loan within the league may not compete against his former team during the MLS season.
