STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The chairman of Penn State's board of trustees said he's concerned about members "single-minded focus" on fighting sanctions in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
Keith Masser sent a letter to the board Wednesday saying he's asked alumni members to cancel their request for a special meeting Monday. They want the university to join two state officials as a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the NCAA.
Masser says he won't attend meeting and suggested board members could block action by not showing up. He says focusing on sanctions has deflected attention from other issues and called it a "significant problem."
The university is currently a defendant in the lawsuit which challenges the legality of a consent decree that led to sanctions including a $60 million fine.
