MURRAY — The Humane Society of Utah recently achieved its annual goal of placing 9,000 dogs and cats into good environments.
HSU reached 9,001 adopted pets Dec. 3 when Gloria Romine adopted two Chihuahuas named Batman and Snuggs, who happen to be brothers, according to a news release.
Batman and Snuggs were surrendered to the HSU together by their former owner almost one month ago.
Hoping to keep the brothers together, the HSU staff featured them together at all times.
When she entered the HSU, Romine had her sights on another dog, whom she had seen featured on TV, according to the news release.
But when she saw Batman and Snuggs together, she changed her mind.
Romine lives with her 12-year-old grandson Jason who didn’t know his grandma would be bringing home pets.
“The Humane Society of Utah is proud to have reached our annual goal with almost one full month left in the year,” said Gene Baierschmidt, executive director. “This number is a new annual new record for the HSU, but we aren’t done yet. We are looking toward a new goal by Dec. 31 of 10,000 placements of dogs and cats.”
HSU has also placed 500 small animals, such as rabbits, hamsters and parrots this year.
