Patterson, Carter lead Omaha past Marquette 97-89

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Devin Patterson had 26 points with eight assists, CJ Carter scored 25 points and Omaha defeated Marquette 97-89 on Saturday.

Mike Rostampour added 11 points with 11 rebounds for the Mavericks (2-1), who shot 57.1 percent from the field and had five players in double figures. Tre'Shawn Thurman chipped in 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Rylan Murry scored 10.

Juan Anderson finished with 23 points, Derrick Wilson added 17 and Duane Wilson 15 for the Golden Eagles (1-2).

Omaha broke away from a second-half tie with a 17-4 surge sparked by a 3-pointer and five free throws from Patterson to make it 83-70 with 4:05 left. The Mavericks sank 10 of 12 free throws in the final two minutes to ice it, finishing 26 of 30 from the line overall.

Thurman grabbed seven rebounds and Carter had six, leading to a 40-24 advantage in rebounding for Omaha.
