ELY, Nev. (AP) — An online auction of railroad adventures and collectibles is underway to benefit the Nevada Northern Railway Museum tourist attraction in Ely.
The nonprofit foundation is conducting the auction through Dec. 1 as part of its push to preserve one of the nation's most popular railroad sites.
Up for sale are more than 200 items, including historic railroad photos, collectibles and opportunities to be the engineer of a steam locomotive or to ride with the engineer.
The foundation operates the best preserved example of a standard-gauge short line railroad facility left in North America.
Visitors can ride several original steam locomotives and passenger cars delivered to Ely over a century ago.
Railroad track for the Nevada Northern Railway connected one of the nation's largest copper mines to transcontinental routes farther north.
