KEARNS — Unified police detectives were looking Thursday for three men involved in a fight that resulted in the tip of a man's finger being bitten off.

The fight, according to police, started because of a dispute between a woman's current boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend who is also the father of her child.

About 4:10 a.m., police were called to a fight near 4200 West and 4900 South. The current boyfriend, 23, went to the house with two male friends, both 21, and the girlfriend to allegedly "talk" to the ex-boyfriend, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The talk, however, quickly escalated into a fight on the front lawn. The 24-year-old ex-boyfriend had a 19-year-old friend at the house with him. They got into a fight with the current boyfriend and his two male friends, Hoyal said.

During the fight, one of the friends of the current boyfriend pulled out a metal bar and hit both the ex-boyfriend and the 19-year-old.

At some point during the fight, investigators believe the current boyfriend bit the tip of the ex-boyfriend's left ring finger off. The finger tip was later recovered by detectives. Hoyal did not know whether doctors were able to reattach it.

The current boyfriend and his two friends fled the scene. The two injured men went to an area hospital. Hoyal said investigators know the identities of the three men who fled but were not releasing them publicly on Thursday.

The woman, who was in the middle of the controversy and remained at the scene, was not arrested.
