PEKIN, Ill. (AP) — Officials in Pekin say a worker was seriously injured when a heavy pipe fell on his leg at the Pekin Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Pekin Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/1xxn8He ) that the accident happened Tuesday morning. Pekin Fire Chief Kurt Nelson says workers were removing a flange from a large pipe used to connect chlorination tanks. That's when the object fell 2 to 3 feet on the worker, pinning him to the ground inside a hole that was dug for the project.
Police say workers used heavy machinery to lift the piece from the victim's leg. Rescuers used a ladder to enter the hole and treat the victim before taking him to the hospital. The victim's name was not immediately released.
