HERRIMAN — The 18-year-old woman who died in a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon has been identified as Cambrie Cozzens of Riverton.
The accident occurred at 5600 W. 13100 South and forced Unified Police to close the north and southbound lanes on 5600 West.
The 17-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital in fair condition. Cozzens was a passenger in the car.
A Bronco was heading west on 13100 South and crashed into the passenger side of the Saturn. Witnesses said the driver of the Saturn ran a red light. A Dodge Charger, also sitting at the light, was hit, police said.
The driver of the Charger and the Bronco were not hurt in Sunday's incident. Unified Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the crash.
Unified Police Department spokesman Justin Hoyal said it's common sense, but the lesson here is an important one.
"I think what's important to remember here is that we're always alert and cognizant of the traffic signals that are around so we make sure we stop when those lights are red," Hoyal said.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and talk with witnesses. Police don't know if Cozzens was wearing her sealt belt.
Traffic delays are expected in the area for the next few hours.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
