Plates and Palates
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
After a remodel earlier this year, the team at Plates and Palates says business couldn't be better. More people than ever are discovering what their Bountiful restaurant has to offer. And this year they're celebrating 10 years of being in business.
Jared Christensen, who owns the business in partnership with his brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Nina Christensen, says during the remodel, they took out most of the retail, and then added in new chairs and tables. They also painted and redecorated everything to give Plates and Palates a facelift and increase seating. They can now host up to 65 guests where they capped out at 45 before. And the kicker is they did all the updates without closing the restaurant.
Their menu is still the same classics their customers love with daily specials. A popular dish is the lemon tarragon salad, bow tie pasta in lemon tarragon sauce, as well as the coconut cake, which is sold both by the slide or entire cake. But come fast if you want the whole cake because it's first come, first served, and they often run out. In the last few years their catering business has really taken off for weddings, parties and other special events.
Jared says this is still very much a family-owned and operated business. One of Justin and Nina's sons has been working full-time at Plates and Palates for a while, so he represents the second generation involved in the business. Nina remains the head chef and innovator. She has a creative mind and all of their dishes are her original recipes.
The idea for Plates and Palates came around 10 years ago. Justin and Jared always talked about opening a business together. Justin had previously worked at The Mandarin in Bountiful, which is also where he met Nina. It became exactly the training ground he needed later when he and Jared decided to open a restaurant together.
The word about Plates and Palates continues to spread, as more people discover this best-kept Bountiful secret.
