TV interest mirrors drop in voting

NEW YORK (AP) — Television interest in the midterm elections was down, just like voter turnout.

The Nielsen company said that there were 20 percent fewer people watching election wrap-ups on six TV networks at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday than were watching at the same time four years ago.

Fox News Channel led the way with 6.61 million viewers. CBS had 5.41 million, NBC had 4.27 million, ABC had 3.51 million, CNN had 1.94 million and MSNBC had 1.59 million for the coverage on a strong night for Republican candidates.

The total of 23.33 million viewers for the one-hour period when all six networks showed election coverage compared to 29.23 million during the 2010 midterm elections.
