WASHINGTON (AP) — America has awoken to a new political dynamic today, with sharper dividing lines in an already divided government following yesterday's midterm election. Republicans have seized control of the Senate from the Democrats for the first time since 2006. And the GOP has an even tighter grip on the House. President Barack Obama has scheduled an afternoon news conference to offer his take on the Election Day beating the Democrats have suffered. And on Friday, he wants to meet with the leaders of both parties.

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of President Barack Obama's first phone calls following yesterday's big election loss by the Democrats was to Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who's now positioned to become the new Senate majority leader. The two did not connect, but Obama left McConnell a message. House Speaker John Boehner says yesterday's victory is still not a time for celebration for his fellow GOP. He says, "It's time for government to start getting results and implementing solutions to the challenges facing our country, starting with our still-struggling economy."

NEW YORK (AP) — The company that made the rocket that exploded last week while on a NASA mission says it likely will stop using the type of engines that were in the craft. The Antares commercial supply rocket bound for the International Space Station exploded moments after liftoff. Orbital Sciences says its investigation of the crash is continuing, but preliminary results point to a failure in one of its two main engines. Orbital says it still plans to fulfill its contract with NASA to deliver all remaining cargo to the Space Station by the end of 2016.

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in Washington state say they're taking seriously the posting online of photos that claim to be the body of a woman found dead in her apartment in Port Orchard. Authorities say the graphic images were posted about a half-hour before a relative reported the woman's death on Tuesday. The local sheriff's office says it has not confirmed whether the photos online are of the woman. Authorities don't believe the attack was random, and they're searching for the woman's car.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) — This year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is an 85-foot Norway spruce from central Pennsylvania. Workers are cutting down the 13-ton tree this morning, and a crane will hoist it onto a trailer for the 155-mile journey to midtown Manhattan. It'll be illuminated for the first time on Dec. 3 in a ceremony that's been held since 1933. The tree comes from the home of Dan Sigafoos (SIG'-ah-fohz) and Rachel Drosdick-Sigafoos, who live about three hours west of New York City.
