RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno City Councilwoman Hillary Schieve (SHEE'-vee) has been elected the city's first new mayor in more than a decade.

Schieve defeated Reno city planner Ray Pezonella (Pehz-uh-NELL'-uh). The two were the top vote-getters in a crowded field of 18 candidates in the non-partisan primary in June.

With some final precinct results still outstanding early Wednesday, Schieve was leading by about 60 percent to 40 percent.

She will succeed Mayor Bob Cashell, a former lieutenant governor first elected mayor in 2002. He would not have been able to seek a fourth term because of term limits.
