RENO, Nev. (AP) — Republican Dan Schwartz has been elected Nevada state treasurer by defeating the current Democratic state controller Kim Wallin in the race for one of six constitutional offices in the state.

The Las Vegas businessman was among the Republicans riding Gov. Brian Sandoval's coattails to victory Tuesday night. The popular GOP governor was re-elected in a landslide.

Wallin knocked off an incumbent Republican in 2006 to become the first certified public accountant to be elected state controller in 50 years. She was re-elected in 2010 and termed out this year.

Schwartz succeeds Democrat Kate Marshall, who also was termed out of office and ran for secretary of state.
