TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- Ben Spies won the first professional motorcycle race at the new Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday, his seventh AMA Superbike victory of the season.
"I looked at the lap times the leaders were running early on and wasn't sure if they could keep that pace all race," said Spies, who won by 1.732 seconds.
"I put my head down and charged hard and things started clicking. I took the lead and just tried to be consistent to the finish."
The Texan extended his series leader over Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Mat Mladin of Australia to 37 points. Mladin finished second.
The second race of the Honda Summit of Speed is Sunday.
