Lance Bandley reportingA police officer was attacked in Pioneer Park while trying to stop a drug deal, officials say.
A bike squad officer apparently noticed a potential drug deal going down and tried to stop it.
"He attempted to speak to Mr. Mendoza about the suspicious activity and that's when Mr. Mendoza started to fight with the officer," says Detective Robin Snyder.
Snyder says the situation almost got out of control because of the large crowd in the park.
"The officer tried to take him into custody and called for a backup officer and approximately 30 bystanders started to surround the officer," says Snyder.
Snyder says there has been a lot more activity in the park lately because of the warmer weather, and they are doing more bike patrols to try and control the situation.
