HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Joao Plata and Enner Valencia had two goals apiece, and Ecuador beat El Salvador 5-1 on Tuesday night to get a win for Ivan Hurtado in his final appearance with the national team.
The 40-year-old Hurtado left in the 42nd minute to a large ovation from the partisan crowd at Red Bull Arena. The defender is retiring after a team-record 168 appearances.
It was the second friendly for each team in the U.S. in the last five days. Ecuador drew 1-1 with the United States in East Hartford, Connecticut, on Friday night, while El Salvador lost 3-0 to Colombia at the home of Major League Soccer's Red Bulls.
