DALLAS (AP) — A Texas health official says preparations were made for "a second case" after a man was diagnosed with Ebola. Now they may have it. A health worker who provided hospital care for an Ebola patient who later died has tested positive for the virus in preliminary results. More tests will be done to confirm the diagnosis.
MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) — Liberian officials are trying to head off a possible strike tomorrow by nurses and physician assistants over demands for hazard pay in the midst of the Ebola crisis. The country is appealing to workers to show up at their jobs. Officials say a strike in the middle of the epidemic could deliver a serious blow to the fight against Ebola in Liberia. More than 2,300 Liberian deaths are thought to be from Ebola, among the 4,000 total dead in West Africa.
MURSITPINAR, Turkey (AP) — The battle for Kobani, a Syrian town on Turkey's border that under siege from Islamic State group militants, has taken a slight turn in favor of Kurdish defenders. Activists say Kurdish fighters have been able to halt the advance of the extremist group amid continuing airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition.
BAGHDAD (AP) — At least 26 Kurdish security forces are dead in a triple suicide bombing northeast of Baghdad. And a roadside bomb killed the police chief of the western Anbar province today, dealing major blows to Iraqi security forces struggling to combat the Islamic State extremist group. The triple attack in Diyala province, began with a bomber at the compound's gate. Then two bombers drove explosives-filled cars into the compound.
CAIRO (AP) — Along with a U.S. pledge of $212 million, participants at a donors' conference in Cairo today are expected to pledge hundreds of millions of dollars more to rebuild Gaza following the Hamas Israel war. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas promises a transparent and responsible use of funds and says $4 billion is needed.
