JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Joshua Rice caught five passes for 91 yards, including a game-winning 36-yard touchdown from Quantavius Peterson with 1:46 remaining, and Mississippi Valley State rallied from 17-6 in the third quarter to beat Jackson State 27-23 on Saturday.
Peterson, who entered the game in relief of starter Patrick Ivy, finished 8 of 12 for 73 yards passing while adding 56 yards rushing and a touchdown. Ivy finished with 71 yards passing and Jeremy Dobson led the Delta Devils (2-5, 1-4 Southwestern) with 71 yards rushing and a score.
LaMontiez Ivy had 293 yards passing and a touchdown to lead Jackson State (3-4, 1-3). The Tigers led much of the game before allowing Mississippi Valley State to tie it late in the fourth. A 30-yard field goal by Ryan Deising, his third of the day, gave the Tigers a three-point lead, setting up the Delta Devils' final drive.
