SALT LAKE CITY — For the second night in a row, a man wearing nylons over his face robbed a convenience store in Salt Lake City. Police do not believe it's a coincidence.
Police said a man described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing a gray sweatshirt, gloves, and pantyhose over his head robbed the Maverik at 2680 S. 2000 East just after midnight.
He walked in with his hands in his pockets and demanded money from the clerk, according to Lt. Eddie Cameron of the Salt Lake City Police Department. Cameron said the robber stuffed the cash in his pockets and fled westbound, but police don't know if he got into a car or ran on foot.
The robber matches almost exactly the description of the gunman who robbed a 7-Eleven about nine miles away early Thursday.
“The nylon masks with gray hoodie pulled up shadowing his face, turned away from cameras, for the most part, inside the store (are) very similar,” said Cameron.
He noted a couple of differences in the crimes.
At the Maverik robbery, the man wore black nylons over his head. In the 7-Eleven robbery, the robber wore flowered nylons on his head. Early Friday, the robber wore black gloves and Thursday the robber wore gray gloves.
Investigators were reviewing surveillance video to try to identify the robber or robbers.
